Cick-Fil-A boss Truett Cathy on gay marriage

Chicken food chain "Chick-Fil-A" is grilled for rejection of gay marriage
The restaurant chain Chick-fil-A gets a strong headwind for their stance on gay marriage.
Washington. The U.S. food chain, "Chick-Fil-A" gets a strong headwind for their stance on gay marriage. The mayors of several major U.S. cities rail against the arch-conservative company. This in turn calls the Republican Mick Huckabee on the plan. Threatens a bizarre chicken war?

But let's have a brief look onto what they really said:
Concerning their support for the traditional family Samuel Truett Cathy said “Well, guilty as charged, We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families – some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that,...We intend to stay the course. We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

First Boston. Then Chicago. Now also in San Francisco. The mayors of major U.S. cities have to pick just a chicken fast food chain with the "Chick-Fil-A".

USA
U.S. President Obama says 'yes' to gay marriage
As the first president of the United States, Barack Obama has the approval of same-sex marriages pronounced. That's a bold move in an election year, because the issue divides the country. Among young American voters should the profession mainly to be adopted.

Because his boss Dan Cathy by President Obama recently publicly advocated gay and lesbian marriage pointedly refuses to Edward M. Lee (San Francisco) have Thomas Menino (Boston) and Rahm Emanuel (Chicago) agreed on an unprecedented action, the each business promoter could actually jump into the sword. You agree that with 1600 branches and four billion dollars in annual sales to the larger blackheads on American fast food chain owned table from Georgia virtually persona non grata.

Huckabee calls for solidarity visits to
Tenor of scolding: If Cathy, who has ordered his staff "biblical values", but elsewhere fry, "but not with us." Consistent with that finding, the Jim Henson Company, creators of the Muppet Show, co-operation with the chicken company, which until recently as a bonus with his puppets to put the "chicken wings" terminated.

"Discrimination", screams the gathering at Mick Huckabee opposition. On Wednesday, the former Republican presidential candidate, a devout Baptist, called for solidarity visit of "Chick-Fil-A" stores around the country. Two million are on Twitter already confirmed their attendance, says Huckabee. Either America stands before a bizarre chicken war. Or next week, no cock crows more after that.

When Dan Cathy says, it often sounds more like a conservative preacher to CEO. So also recently. "We support the family -. The biblical definition of the family We are a family run owned by families, families, and we are still married to our first wives that we thank God." Said the managing director of fast-food chain Chick-fil-A (pronounced Chick-filet) a few days in the Baptist Press, the official mouthpiece of the congregation.

In the words of Cathy catapulted himself and his company in the midst of a heated debate. The Boston Mayor Thomas Menino turned with an angry letter to the company that was planning a second branch in his state. "We have no room for discrimination and therefore no place for your business," said Menino. Mayor of San Francisco and Chicago followed suit, the former parent company of the "Muppets", The Jim Henson Company, ended the decades-long collaboration. Church leaders and conservative politicians like Mike Huckabee, the chain jumped to the side and called for next Wednesday, "Chick-fil-A-day".
At first glance, Chick-fil-A differs little from the competition. In about 1600 stores, the chain offers chicken, salads and milkshakes to deep-fried. The fans of the chicken chain is so faithful that staying at a new opening in front of some of the branches to be the first. To date, the company is privately held, revenue is by its own account at over 4.1 billion dollars - compared to the previous year, a growth of over 13 percent.

But behind the scenes, much seems strange. Truett Cathy's father Dan was built in 1946 in the small town of Hapeville, Georgia company founded on biblical principles. Sundays remain closed the shutters so that employees can go to church, debt makes the company not part of any branch profits accrue to the municipalities. "All this makes us a stronger company and strengthens the Chick-fil-A family," the company said on its website.
Critics accuse the company to go too far. When assigning jobs married applicants are preferred, interviewed franchise applicants and their family members in detail. "If you do not plan to stay all your life, you should not even apply until" it summarizes Truett Cathy. If an employee sinful, said Cathy once in an interview, he would most likely fire him.
Not all employees are so happy: More than a dozen times the company has been sued for discrimination. A Muslim employee complained in 2002 because he was fired after he refused to participate in a group prayer. Only in the last week accused a female employee who was laid off, so they can take better care of their children.
But the influence is not limited to the business. To the chain is the powerful Winshape Foundation, which operates nursing homes and among other summer camp. The conservative organization puts millions into anti-gay campaigns and programs to preserve the marriage. "Chick-fil-A is one of the most virulent opponents of gay rights in the country," warned the organization Equality Matters. In February, students took to the streets across the country to oust the branches of the campuses of universities.
The company was rowing in the face of massive criticism back then. "It's a tradition of Chick-fil-A to treat each person with dignity and respect - regardless of their faith, race, sexual orientation or gender," was on Facebook. "From now on we leave the political debate on same-sex marriage of government and political arena."
